Ive painted sub boxes before and it always always always comes out with pin size holes all over it no matter what kind of thick primer i use. I suggest using puddy on most of the pours then priming the crap out of it with the thickest junk you can find. If you have access to some decent paint supplys then i suggest clearing it and waiting overnight sanding it and clearing it again then use a low grit paper and buffing it if you know what im talking about :X

i say bondo the seams, primer.. and then walmart sells this "hammered finish" paint in a rattle-can. that should hide the wood surface while giving it a unique look. it comes in a few different colors.

btw my experience when painting sub boxes are with HVLP spray guns not cans of paint. if u want u can prime it thick as hell with a spray can primer then roll on single stage with a paint roller ( yea like for your walls) you would be surprised how nice it comes out.

Any wood covering I was always taught to bondo the seams and prime it many times, then sand it smooth. you might have to do it a couple of times but you always sand it smooth between 4 or 5 coats (that might have been thinner primer)

you can get sandable auto primer, just spray it on thick, after sanding you wont have the wood "swirls". thats in addition to the bondo-ing of the seams. but for all intensive purposes, you would be better off just getting some material i.e. (p)leather, carpet, etc. and just covering it that way...

I would suggest going to your local paint suppy store and looking into getting gel coat to paint it with. Gel coat is pretty common when painting interiors to match exteriors.
