Default How to paint a sub box??

i just finished a totally custom built sub box for my reg cab. it will house 3 8" subs mounted inverted and i am wondering what to paint it with??

it is made of MDF(medium density fiberboard) and taked\s up 2/3s of the back wall and will have a storage bin on the other 1/3rd.

been thinking dupolicolor truckbed coating or wrinkle finish or gloss black?? will eventually be adding LEDs hidden somewhere on the box.

the board u see here will go behind the box to enclose a section of it and fill the gap that the Regular Cabs have and i will eventually get some kind of emblem put there to light up with LEDs.

help soon!! im painting tomorrow or the next day!! thanks!!!

I would suggest carpeting in becuase if you paint You will have to bondo the box and make it all smooth then paint to get rid of the wood texture. Or if you wanted to, take it to an upholstery shop and have it wrapped in leather that matches the truck or something.

You may want to prime the box first then if you get some really chunky truck bed coating do that first to hide the wood texture, then go back if you dont like the color and paint over the truck bed coating.

If you want a glossy finish, I suggest using a high build primer to remove the wood texture, and then spraying down your color.
You could use a textured bed liner too I guess if that's what you wanted to do.

Bondo or good primer. Unfortunately rattle can primer does not thicken well.

I say just use spray in bedliner for inside and out! Or put dynamat on the inside like I do and just spray the outside. If you spray 2 or 3 coats, it will hide most box imperfections like the edges. I personally used carpet for my install. Walmart had a 3'x8' roll of speaker box carpet for like $8. They had gray and black. I went with gray
Don't forget to seal the inside up with some silicone or liquid nails! I use liquid nails when butting anything wood together on a box. It makes it so much more solid.
