exhaust options...
i recently bought a 2002 ram 1500 with the 5.9 engine. What's a good muffler that will give it a clear deep sound but not too loud? i'd rather not buy a whole cat-back, just a new muffler if possible.
I am kinda a noob here lol, but I looked around and I decided that I am going to get a flowmaster super 44 when I put exhaust on my truck. They sound pretty nice imo. Check out some vids on youtube or something and you will see links to diff vids w different mufflers and what not.
Hooker Aero Chamber muffler. It's a straight through design and has mesh to keep resonance down yet will be aggressive sounding. Flowmaster doesn't flow well at all and has terrible incab drone resonance. Some want that and most hate it. The Hooker sounds great as I have been looking to swap mufflers out for a while now. Deep tone and very clean. Not over the top loud like a Cherrybomb Vortex or a 1 chamber Flowmaster. Not sure the exact muffler you'll need but Here's a link http://www.jegs.com/i/Hooker/520/21502/10002/-1

Magnaflow or another straight through muffler that is at least an 18" b/c I got a 14" and it's pretty loud. A 24" will sound pretty close to stock until you get on it, from what other people say. You can get a dual in single out (or dual in dual out) and get rid of the restrictive y-pipe all in one shot when the shop puts the muffler on. That's what I did and they just cut the y out and put in new pipe running to the muffler.
Hooker Max Flow is a good straight-through muff...same with magnaflow. Aero Chambers aren't straight-through but they flow better than a flowmaster chambered.
