Default Blown Left u joint and front axle shaft ...

In the last week I noticed gradual binding in my stearing, turning left or right, I could feel a kick back in the stearing wheel, as the days progressed, the binding got worse at higher speeds.

I took my truck in for a wheel alignment at my dodge dealer ( for my new rims and tires ) and mentioned the binding issue.

Left front U joint and axle shaft were replaced under warenty.

I thought 2500 Front alxes were bomb proof !!

77,000 Km on the truck.

I know S. happens, and I'm happy to report this was repaired under warenty.

Your lucky it didn't leave you stranded while you kept on driving with a known issue! Especially a steering issue

On the 2500 Rams and 3500 Rams, the front diff turns when not in 4x4.
The left front wheel would have seazed up, and than life could have been nasty.
I never thought the front U joint was casuing the problem, my tire rods were lose, now with the alignment and new tires, Truck rides and handels better than new.

I can't speak for the 1500 Ram, and yes, the front diff is turning on a 1500 Ram 4x4 if your not in 4x4, how ever, Front CV joints are used, on the 2500, its a solid axle.

You can't tow a 2500 with front wheals on the ground and you should never tow any 4x4 with the front wheals on the ground, but the 1500 4x4 is more forgiving.

In the event your blow a CV joint, or fry the front diff, your still hooped if thiers no fluid in the front diff.

But, with no cv joints, you can pull the front drive shaft and drive in 2wd

CV joints are no were close to the strength of a solid axle, and on the 2500, the front diff is bigger, shocks and springs are better.

But, I'm surprised to observe my truck needed a left front U joint and axle shaft, I really wounder how the CTD are holding up !!!!

I just had the front end completely rebuilt in my 03 2500. I did have a bad u-joint as well. The stock ones are non-serviceable so over time they will simply wear out. The front axle is still tons stronger than the IFS in the 1/2 tons.
