Different Gear questions

I looked threw the FAQ gears section and am considering this change. I have two questions:
1) Did you upgrade your differential(s) when you did it?
2) What did it cost( on a 4wd) to get it done?
I'm trying to see how much it will run and if it justifies the cost by the performance and economy benefit. Thx in advance for all the help.

$1400 for Gears, Auburn LSD and Labor (after knocking their original quote down from $1800), but this was almost four years ago now...
Don't go into this mod thinking it'll ever pay you back in gas savings. True, most experience a little boost in around town MPG's, but you'll give a mpg or two back on the highway.
Nope this is strictly a "seat of the pants" mod, but one I think is a must do if you run bigger tires or tow frequently...

thanks for all the help guys, that really puts it into perspective. I may try a chip, exhaust and cai first, and see if that gives me the performance i want. I want better acceleration and such but dont tow very often. Would be a bit cheaper for the chip and cai/exhaust but i could do that a piece at a time and install them myself. Thanks again all for the help.

A programmer, cat-back and CAI are often called the "Big 3" in mods. They are among the lowest cost, give fair bang for the buck, and a lot of other performance mods really need them to operate at peak efficiency.
These should be the first mods anyone should consider doing on their truck...
