Default K&N Filter

I have an existing 1-into-2 exhaust on my 5.7L '08 Ram.

I was looking at the K&N air intake but wanted to hear from someone with first-hand experience. Is there any noticeable power increase?

What will it do with fuel economy? What difference does it make?

I don't have any intentions of altering the ECU in any way..

Thanks in advance

I have the K&N 63 series Cold Air Intake system on my 08 5.7

I got about 1-1.5 more mpg when I instaled it and the truck got much louder. As far as power increase its not going to give you any night-and-day power increase.

I just installed the drop in filter in the stock airbox. No CAI will give you the performance your looking for. They also cost an arm &a leg for what you get iMO. I have K&N Filter and a AIRaid tube that eliminates the Hemi hat. Saved me some good monies. Airaid does sell a fliter and tube kit for about $180

I've got $56+tax into my K&N and I paid $60 shipped for the tube.

I would say for the long haul, any re-usable filter is gonna save you money as well as give you an increase in performance. But the amount of gain is limited by how many engine breathing modifications you do. A CAI are the same as LT headers in that aspect. If you have a 350hp engine, you may gain 2-3rwhp compared to a 700hp that may gain 8-9rwhp. The more the engine uses the breatheable power, the more power it will yield. But for a stock engine, if you see a 5rwhp increase an 1mpg your doing well.

I think a handheld tuner such as Superchips or Diablo Predator will give you far more gains than any CAI. Especially since they run about the same money! Handheld tuner is good for at least 10rwhp on these trucks even stock.

I also have the 63 series on my '06 5.7 and I agree with Jason I got about 1 MPG gain, sounds louder, but its also noticeable when the MDS turns on, gets annoying but I'm disabling it with a Superchips anyway... slightly better with throttle response but not much gain on power.

If you are on any type of budget, or you have old ears then you would definatly go with the airaid tube and a drop in filter. Quieter, cheaper, and going to be damn close to the same performance or mpg helper.
