Default another a/c thread, tried the search, didn't find anything.

ok, i tried the search but didn't find anything. my dad said his a/c has weakened recently, it still blows cold but not at the volume that it used to. i told him it is probably the notorious blend door thing and not a freon thing like he thinks. i rode with him today and ran the a/c, i also noticed a sound like wind coming over a sharp edge, further leading me to believe it is the door. he also said his recirculation thing no longer works. i'm sure this is a blend door of some sort, can anyone tell me how to access the a/c crap and if i can fix it? i didn't see a DIY, i'll check again later but any input still helps. thanks y'all.

i'm pretty sure that the dash is going to have to be removed to access the ductwork.

Recirculation isn't going to blow no where near as hard as fresh air. i just went through all the settings on mine yesterday. When mine is on super cold blast, there's a lot of noise going on and only a fair amount of air coming from the ducts. This is a common thing on the Rams. It could be that there is nothing wrong and he just noticed how bad they really are.
Mine is so loud and sounds like a freakin windstorm in my truck, but again, not much air is moved. There is nothing wrong with my truck!!!
Not saying there isn't a problem, but there have been many guysd that complain about similar issue's and there's really nothing wrong excpet they just realized that it blows like that because maybe they were comparing against another car??? My wife's Sonata will blow a hat off your head and freeze your eyeballs.
I would set the A/C on fresh air and the air directed all at your face. This is the only way to read with a thermostat or feel everything the A/C's got. recirculation i only use in the winter for heat. A cars interior is so small, that recirculation isn't a good thing for long trips as you should really be getting fresh air in there on a regular basis.. Just my .02
Hope it helps or was maybe just a good thought....lol

Recir/max blows harder than fresh air...mines always on recir because the rams fresh air is unfiltered and blows crap on our interior. I guess a reg cab is good for something besides looks, after 5 minutes of driving I have to turn the fan to the second to lowest setting. Except these last few weeks it's been close to 110* everyday and that bastard is on high the whole time.

I just had mine in last week for this.

The problem is a cheap a$$ actuator lever. It controls air flow redirection to the rear of the cab. It breaks off. There is either a tsb or csa out. I gave the hard copy to the dealer so they would know what to fix .. lame a$$es ... I do have the soft copy someplace .. its not on this desktop ... either on my personal laptop, work laptop or one of my few flash drives. Ill find it tonight and post.

But .. if you dont have an extended warranty ... Strap in. It is a fact. The dash must come out. Luckily, I purchased the extended warranty .. I paid $100 deductible. The truck was laid up for 3 days .. so far no rattles and everything on / in the dash is still working (crossing my fingers).

I also had them do the tranny fix ... after sits for a while, a long pause before kicking into gear. That was totally covered under a CSA - caused by a clogged internal tranny filter. Got the deer and headlights look when I asked, whats the fix? why is it clogging ? Isnt it going to happen again ?

They also checked / did the recent recall ... something about the steering and the; great; wheel flying off. Just what I want while I have the wife and kids in the truck and pulling the camper.

I had a gas cap alarm before I brought it in. Got under the truck just a few minutes ago (need to separately post about plastic glue or epoxy) Turns out the plastic nipple at the larger of the two evap canisters is broken off. Gonna try to do the super glue thing before going for the $112 canister.

I also noticed that the rubber boot at the tranny end of the drive shaft is cracked. More warranty work ..

The $2000 extended warranty in my case has paid for it self with just the a/c issue alone. At a hundred bucks an hour, that a/c job would have easily come to that.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news .. but there is it.
