Alright, finally got under the truck to loosen the bolts on my shackles since they have been squeking and I found this... any suggestions? The problem is when I took off the original shackles the bottom bolt was turned with the head towards the frame and then when I put them back on I put the top bolt on first then the bottom bolt and when I did that I couldn't put the bolt in with the head facing the frame the proper way because it wouldn't fit due to the frame being too close. To me I have one of two options, take everything apart (a pain in the ***) or cut the bolt... any suggestions?

RedTruck-
Reading through the thread I see you recommend using a shock application chart to find shocks that will work. I looked through and found shocks for a GMC Yukon XL 3/4 ton had the same mounting (LS47/LS47) and were a little shorter- about 14" compressed vs 16" stock, about 23" extended vs 26.5" stock. That was the only thing I could find that was much shorter, but it's only 2" shorter. Is that enough? I have a flip kit in the rear, set to 4.5" drop but I just did a c-notch so I have quite a bit of travel. I was hoping for 4 or 5 inches shorter but couldn't find anything. How much shorter are drop shocks, will this be enough?

Looks like the chart I used, but is 2 inches shorter compressed length going to be short enough with a 4.5" rear drop?
Anyone have any idea how much shorter than stock the drop shocks are, or where I could find specs on them?

jason,
I believe i posted the actual shock measurements at some point and I'll see if I can dig them out. Most flip kits come with 2" shock extentions, so it would seem 2" inches is enough. With the c knotch, I can see you might have more travel. I'll post what I find.

Update: I have spindles in the front and use stock length shocks, in the rear I have a flip kit with the OEM bumps removed and modified aftermarket 1" bumps installed. I selected my shock by measuring the distance from the bump stop to the axle, then subtracted that amount from the static shock lenght. This gives me the shock compressed lenght. In my case 15-1/2". I the selected a shock that was shorter than 15-1/2 compressed witha a reasonable amount of travel 5+ inches. I choose The Monroe #557004 with a demensions of 14" - 22". This shock works great and only under the hardest hits do I bottom. The front I removed the bump cups and installed aftermarket modified bumps to get more travel. Below is a picture of the setup. Since this photo I have added 1/4" to the front bump. I have zero rub under all conditions using 285/50-20 tires on stock 08 rims.

Re shackle bolt fix. I had installed lowering shackles to help level mine out a little before just deciding to lower it. I just finished the Mcgaughy's 2/4.5 spindle kit in my 07 1500. Anyways, I had been up against that same problem when I installed mine for the first time. The answer is simple and you don't have to cut anything. Just get the rear of the truck on jack stands at the frame so the rear suspension is hanging. Put your jack under the leaf on one side and put a little pressure on it so the spring has zero pressure. Remove the top shackle bolt and then let the jack down a little so the bottom shackle bolt clears the frame. Once clear remove the bottom schackle bolt and flip it around, jack up the rear end install the top bolt and you are done. just repeat with the other side. Hope this helps. Don't forget to grease them while they are loose...

Red Truck- do you have an idea of how tall your front bump stops are? I was looking into changing mine also and I ran across some 1" tall bumps that I was going to order.
