Couple questions, 1 a little stupid
Well, I have a couple of questions, one of them probably pretty stupid, lol. FYI, I drive a 2003 Ram 1500, 4x4, 5.7L HEMI, with the tow package, and just under 92,000 miles on it.
1.This is the dumb one, lol. Do I have, in my, truck, a PCV valve to change out periodically? I ask because having owned a truck with a 318 V8 in it before, I know that it is a regular maintenance item. I was told at Advance Auto Parts and at O’Reillys that my truck does not have one. On the other hand, I have seen mention of people changing theirs on other websites.
2.My CEL keeps coming on, always the same code, P0456 I think, the one that says there is a minor leak in the EVAP system. I replaced my gas cap and cleared the code from my computer with an ODBII reader, but it keeps coming back. I would say on average, about 5 days after I clear the code, it comes back. I looked under the truck, and the lines on the EVAP unit still look pretty good. I have not noticed any performance issues, smells, stuttering, etc. My question is, should I try to just replace those lines on the EVAP unit? They are only 2 short, under 1 foot, lines and it looks like you could just yank them off and pop new ones on. If this is the case, could someone either give me a part number to take to a dealer for new lines or recommend an alternative? Part two of this one is, if the problem is not the gas cap, and not those two short lines, what could it be? I’m guessing there are more lines I can’t easily see, could it be one of them leaking? Also, about how worried should I be about this? Is it like a “Get the truck to the shop ASAP thing” or more like “Don’t worry about it until the code changes to a worse one”?
Thanks.

You have a PCV valve on the 03 Hemi.
I have an 03 Hemi & I changed mine out, not two months ago.
You will have to take off the rubber throttle body to air cleaner hose, to get to it.
It's located ontop of the intake manifold just below the throttle body on the left side of the enginge, as you look at it from the front.
It's a circular item with a tab that you use, to unscrew the PCV out if the manifold.
Mine was a little stuck, so I gently used some pliers to grab hold and unscrew it.
Hope this helps?

If the check ball in the PCV still moves (may need a shot or two of brake cleaner), you can probably delay the replacement. It looks like a small gas cap, and yeah, sometimes they don't like to come out.
From what I've read, that short hose is prone to splitting. My truck throws a P0442 code, but it comes and goes.

Thanks for the replies, but does anyone know about replacing the hoses? I just need either a part number, or if I can use like some generic tubing from an auto parts place. Also, since Advance Auto Parts and O'Reilly's told me I don't have a PCV when I do, where would you guys recommend I go to get one? Order online from somewhere?
Where are you finding two short hoses for the evap system? There's a few lines, and some are long.
Is there any clicking when you turn off the truck? A bad purge solenoid will click when you turn off the truck and it's one of the main components on the evap system.
Edit - Apparently the big closed loop systems aren't used anymore.

They are about 10" long from memory with several tight bends in them.
Also Drangiz. If you replace those hoses with non specific hose, they will collapse under the vaccum present.
Make sure you buy suitable vaccum hose that wont collapse.
