Hey guys,

I'm looking in adding about 1000$ of performance upgrade on my 04 ram hemi and was wondering what would be a good upgrade. Truck is stock exept for lift kit with 35'' tires and aero turbine 3030 muffler. I was looking at the mopar performance camshafts!!!
What do you guys think

Thanks

Handheld tuner is the best bang for the Buck. $400
LT headers are an easy enough bolt on for inexperienced engine mechanics. $700-1200
Camshafts will need a custom tune to be able to function properly. Also, cams on an 04 would require bearing change as well. At least i would never stick a new cam on any bearing that had more than 10kmi on them as they are already worn in to the old camshaft contours. Cams will be more than $1000 because you will need a programmer to tune.
E-fan mod

You own a Hemi which has lot of power from the factory. i would suggest purchasing some suspension componens to properly fit those 35's comfortably. Either a simple level with new shocks or a body lift. But a shock upgrade should be a must!
I've got an '08 and wanna replace the crappy stock shocks with some Rancho Quick lifts. Check out Moe's Perfromance. His prices are some of the best around.

Sorry to go off subject, but how do you like your AT3030. I'm seriously considering getting one.

Total cam cost is going to be well over a grand once you have everything you need to do the install (figure cam = $230 - $400, tuner = $350, internals = $75 - $100, almost every cam recommends headers = $300 - $600+, custom tune = $150, install kit = $100, Labor if you are not doing it yourself = $500 - $900+ depending on who does it). The end result is worth it but when you really start adding things up its a lot of $$$.

The tq converter you are looking at around $500 plus a core charge as well of about $100 or more depending on the manufacturer and if you have to pay shipping its about $40 by weight, if you dont do it your self its around a $300 - $500 install charge. Hopefully mine will be here tuesday so I can get it installed and let everyone know what it can do for you but the gains seem to be really good...

Because you are running 35's and a lift your best bang for the buck mod is going to be gears and a tuner. The gears will make up for those big *** tires and the tuner will help the shifts. It may put you a little more than a grand but if you play your cards right you can find deals on the parts, the killer is labor though.

Gears are a great mod, well worth the money, but if you've got a 4WD, you'll need to do both front and rear gears, and that will run you over $1000. A cam is another great mod, but will run upwards of $1000 easy, probably up into the $1500-2000 range. For a grand, a tuner and a set of LT headers would be a great investment, anyone that halfway knows their way around a car can install headers, and a tuner is as simple as plugging it in and following the on screen directions. But if you're running 35 inch tires, I highly suggest hanging on to your money until you've got enough salted away to run 4.10 or 4.56 gears, depending on your current ratio.

With those 35's on there I would say go with gears. The cam is a good idea but when you add in all the cost of the extras that go along with getting a cam install you are looking at more than $1000. Like the others said you need the cam, install, extra internals & fluids, a tune to run most tunes and a tuner as well to load the tune onto your truck. All that added together is going to be more than $1000.
