Default Do i need to kick myself???

So, I'm sure most of you know my motto on headers?? Go Long or go home!
Well...

I bought a set of JBA Shorty Headers 1961S. The only brand I would even consider because of quality and their patented firecone collector.
Anyways, I picked up a 'spankin new complete set for $249 shipped to my door. Got them off a seller on Egay. I'm sure they don't come with the warranty, but I just couldn't pass up the price. Not sure if they are 2nds or what, but I'll be inspecting them carefully when i get them. i don't suspect anything out of the ordinary. This seller has lots of good feedbacks on identical items.

I was talking to my buddy that had put a set on his Cheby. JBA that is and he said that the dyno gains were impressive for shorties. More than he ever expected. He had only replaced his stock manifolds with shorties because of a cracked OEM manifold and he got his JBA's used for $200.

So, do I need to kick myself or should I be shaking my own hand???......lmao

Don't worry. I'm still buying the Ranch Quicklifts. Those will be ordered before i leave for the Virgin Islands on the 14th...

Damn man, give me some of that money you got so I can get me some TLs.......LOL

Seriously though, should you be kicker your own butt or shaking your own hand? You tell us after you get them installed and welded up and see how they run and sound.

But unless they are coated and that is what makes them such a good deal, why didnt you get the Pacesetter LTs on ebay for 300?

Good find! I had JBA shorty's on my '98 Dodge, never had it dyno'd but the butt dyno registered good gains, but I re-did the entire exhaust when I put them on and ditched the cats (did the non-fouler trick to get rid of the CEL). Went just about true duel, with two mufflers, all except I welded in an "H" pipe. I know the 2nd gen cats are a LOT more restrictive than the 3rd Gens one's, so I don't know how much of the felt gain was just from the shorty's. But they looked great and sounded awesome!!!
For that price, I'm sure you'll be happy with them...

yes you should!!

oh, went back and read the post. yea, kick yourself anyway. if I did headers i'd probably go mids or shorts. I want low end torque, LTs probably gain me nothing. problem with increasing low end is that it doesn't really show up on a dyno because all anyone looks for is peak hp. good find, let us know how you like them. at that price i'd get them.

The headers aren't coated, but i can prob get them done locally if i wanted. They sre just Stainless.

Silver, the diff between BBK and JBA is for one, the Firecone that JBA has patented. The Collector design is what makes the most power of any header set-up. Crappy collector design=crappy flow.
Another difference is Quality Control. I bought a set of BBK LT headers for my Mustang and OMG were those things a mess. The welds were of the worst I had ever seen. They were all globbed up inside the primary tubes. The welds were so thick that the flange, where the primaries are welded to that the 1-5/8" diameter was cut down to 1-1/4" because of the terrible welds. I grinded down what i could within a reasonable limit. However, the welds on the collector were just disgusting to look at and I couldn't fit my dremel in there to take the welds down. At the collector, the merge of the Primaries were F'in sloppy, cutting off flow and just not cut nicely.
Another thing is that the JBA's are Stainless, while most if not all BBK's are Mild steel simply coated with Chrome crap or a Ceramic coating that will still allow rust to penetrate through starting at all the joints. My LT headers for my mustang were ceramics coated and was kept indoors ALL TIMES and was only really ever washed 4 times for 4 years I owned it. it only seen 4kmi total and the headers were on only 2kmi and were showing signs of rust around the edges of the Ceramc coating.

I didn't want LT's because of all the work installing them as well as Dealer issue's. The JBA's come with a smog Certification # and really no dealer could deny work with that Cert #. Also, if any major issue's did arise, I could swap the factory manifolds before I brought it in for service. LT's would be such a PIA and the more that i have read into LT's for our trucks the more I didn't want to get them. The LT's only showed gains at mid-top end power and a loss on low end and the gains aren't as much as one would anticipate from a V8 engine. i seen a few graphs of LT gains.15/15 is all that i was able to fnd. Actually, a guy that wanted to sell me his TTI set-up told me he seen 13/15 on the Dyno with them. That terrible. My Mustang seen more than that stock and picked up low end torque. The Rams see big or shall I say Normal gains with LT's with either Cams or Heads or both. Then LT's would bring in nearly 30/40 on the dyno.
If these Shorties are Half of what JBA claims.....I will be happy.
