Welcome to DF, Ryan! There are a lot of great, simple bolt on mods for these trucks. Personally, I believe the most important thing on your vehicle in tires, if you don't have a good set of meats, what the rest of the truck can do, does matter if you don't have good contact with the road. A tuner is another great mod, and of course intake and exhaust. Search around this section, and our 3rd Gen FAQ section, and you'll find tons of opinions and reviews of just about any damned mod you want.
A proper sized resistor in the powerwire does trick the PCM, but just enough to slightly enhance performance, not enough to risk any engine damage. There are plenty of guys here that run 180-degree thermostats rather than the stock 195 degree ones, an the difference in temp is not enough to harm the engine.

id go cai and exhaust first right out the box and then go from there get it breathing right first you cab do both for under 5 bills....just look around

heres a intake for a 4.7l same one i run good intake now just goto your local exhaust shop you wanna choose a muffler and run it single in and dual out whereever you want the tips and voila ...
