looks like sunday is gonna be the day, im just going to run down to the dealer tonight or tomorrow and pickup the filters and gasket and pick up some valvoline ATF+4 from walmart. I cant wait to get this thing in!!!

yep, I had a buddy of mine I used to play golf with who is the mgr at a Chrysler stealership tell me that not only is the Mopar tranny fluid made by Valvoline but their engine oil is as well.

 

I wish I knew more about what I am going to need for this. My guy is telling me I need to pick up 7-8qts for dropping the pan, which after reading through some old posts sounds about right for just dropping the pan, BUT what about the converter? On a new converter is there oil already in there or does it need filled up as well?

 

Sometimes they come factory filled. If yours doesn't look in your manual, it should give you tranny fluid volume.......that will include the fluid going into the TC. So then subtract out what your guy told you will go in the pan and that is about what is in the TC.

Also, sometimes there is a plug on the side of the TC, fill it through the spline hole till it comes out the plug hole or just fill it till it won't take anymore. Fluid will get in from the tranny as you fill the pan if you don't fill the TC entirely. It will all balance out as you keep adding and check your dipstick.

 

This one is an aftermarket setup not a factory one...

 

I dropped my pan and cleaned it out, changed filters and put it back up. I filled it with RP and took loose the trans line at the cooler and put a 3/8 hose on it leafding to a bucket. I cranked it up and let it pump out for a few secs and turned it off. Filled back up the pan with more RP and did the same over and over until the oil started coming out as new. I used 17 qrts to do that.

 

i think i may have read somewhere that the pan capacity is like 8 quarts and the TC is another 6-7, meaning you would need minimum 14 quarts to do the whole thing.

 

hurry up and get this thing in man, im dying to find out how it goes!
