Default Brake controller... suggestions?

I'm looking at getting an electric brake controller. There are so many options, im not sure what to get. I dont do a lot of heavy towing, so I cant justify spending a lot of money on one. I was thinking less than $50. I would like a proportional controller that can handle at least 4 brakes. The most weight I ever haul would be a steel car hauler trailer with 4 fourwheelers.
So what are you guys using?
thanks

This should probably in in a FAQ if it isn't.

I wouldn't cheap out on a brake controller. The difference between "cheap" and "good" isn't that much, and I'd rather not rely on "cheap" to stop my truck/trailer.

I love my Prodigy controller. It's proportional and supports up to 4 axles (8 brakes). You also get features like being able to fine-tune the braking, including a larger increase in braking power if you need to stop suddenly.

I believe mine was $90 or so from the dealer.

i agree, should be in the faq.
another question: my truck came with a wire harness that plugs in under the dash, can i just splice the wires to any brake controller? or are there only certain ones that will wire up to my harness?

only 4 wires are needed for a brake controller so any 4 wire controller will work. i used to work at a trailer manufacturing company and we always put in a tecumpse controller i believe. they were not very expensive and worked up to 6 brakes (3 axles). the problems you run into are trailers with electric over hydraulic brakes. i know that at the time i worked at the trailer place prodigy didnt make a controller compatible with hydraulics.
