2003 Ram, need engine block heater
I just moved to North Dakota from the south and it has been suggested that I get a block heater for my Dodge Truck. The dealer wants $150+, but I know I can get one cheaper and do it myself. However, I am not too sure what type of block heater the Hemi requires. Any info on this from anyone? Places to buy; advice on installation? Btw, the truck is a '03 1500, 5.7L Hemi, 4x2. Thanks.
Yeah...Minot. I got up here about 2 1/2 weeks ago. I have lived in the south for pretty much my entire life, so the cold weather is something I will have to get used to. I am assuming the block heater for the Hemi goes right behind the starter. Do you know of any other type of block heater that will fit?
nope theres only one kind that will fit. im gettin mine from here

what do you do?
its near the rear of the block. you unscrew one of the start bolts, loosen the other and let th starter rotate out of the way for easier access. theres a port there you put the heater into. supposedly the hardest part is running the wire to the front of the engine.... total job time maybe 30 minutes
I did some reading up, and it looks like it goes next to/just behind the starter. You have to partially remove the starter, but it seems to be a relatively easy installation.
