Alternator gauge not reading
I have a 2004 Ram 1500 with the Hemi. My alternator gauge is showing no charge on the instrument panel. The alternator and battery are both less than a year old. I put a voltmeter on the alternator and it is reading at 12.5 volts while the enging is running. I checked the ohm's from the power cable to the battery and everything was ok. All the connections to the alternator looked ok. Anybody know what it might be?
12.5V With the Engine running is very low.. Sounds like your alternator isnt charging anymore..
Mine idles around 13.9V and runs around 14.1V while driving.. I have a stereo with voltage read out in real time to see these numbers..
Or your battery might have gotten damaged if you left lights or somthing on for two long with out running the engine..
Did you replace it with a deep cycle battery ? ex: Optima Yellow Top

I replaced the battery this morning with a 850 cold cranking amp at 0 degrees. I just checked it was putting out 11.5 volts running at idle and you can hear the bearings going bad inside of it. I'm headed to advanced auto this afternoon to make them get me another one.
