Best MPG increase for the money

All good ideas but really, Ive seen no one who says they did these things and got significant more MPG by doing these. We do our mods for fun and to enjoy our trucks. We all know and agree the MPG sucks but aside from CAI (open) intake, exhaust, air filters and tire pressures and keeping the RPM under 2k ALL THE TIME, I dont believe anything else would help.
And do you know how hard it it to keep the RPMs under 2k?

Very true, there isn't one mod that is going to take you from 10mpg to 30mpg other than getting out and pushing it with it turned off. That being said, I have been noticing that as I have been doing my mods to help up the performance by making things work more efficiently, my mpg goes up a little each time as long as I drive with a lighter foot which is actually easier than you think. When you can get up to speed really quickly your 1/4 throttle feels like the stock 1/2 - 3/4 throttle which makes things really fun even though you are not flooring it. Now they are not massive gains, but for the most part it has gone up about 0.5-1.5mpg with each new mod being added depending on the mod (pen and paper).

I would NEVER throw $1k into fuel savings. That's a total waste and you'll never make back your money!!!
Buy something that makes you happy.
Spending $350 on a CAI to maybe gain 1mpg(doubtful) is a waste. here's why. At $3/gallon of gas at say 13mpg average. it would take 1 tank to gain 26miles or save 2gallons. That's $6 savings per tank if you ran empty all the time. $350/6= 59 tankfuls before you come out even. That's IF you really gained 1mpg.
Now, a drop in k&N filter will yield same results at $60.
Only time a drop in filter won't yield the same results is if we were dealing with a high performance application which we aren't.
You''l make up your $60 back and then some.
14mg average is pretty good already. Best MPG gain is all about proper maintenance intervals. Spend your money there! get a tune-up. keep your fluids fresh and DO NOT buy a throttle body spacer. They are worthless.

I intend to do some sort of air filter/CAI and exhaust, and hope that I get a bit of mpg increase for my effort/money. However, my main reason for doing those mods is the sound and throttle response. As stated above, biggest mpg increases would be driving style, tire air pressure, and a well-maintained truck.
