Best MPG increase for the money

If you had $500-$1000 to spend in an attempt to increase your fuel economy, what would you put on your truck? I have an 02' 4x4 1500 4.7 and am getting 14mpg average. Would like to see closer to.....16 or 17? May be to much to ask, but am just wondering where my money would be best spent. Thanks for the help.

agreed on the mpg upgrades... cai, electric fan, and exhaust... then again it takes a lot of gas to make up those 100's of dollars spent on upgrades...
oh, and sling less mud... that cant be good for the mpgs

Also keep up on your tire pressure, that's a freebie! The other option would be take your $500-$1000 and buy a moped or scooter. My Harley will get 50mpg on the highway but it cost closer to $20,000 so not really an economy vehicle if you look at the big picture.
