Default Cold Air Intakes

So after coming on here I have read a lot of people have bought intakes from "egay". I am somewhat thinking in a similar line as really the intake is simply a pipe bringing air into the throttlebody, so what do the AirRaids have over the Ebay ones so to speak.

Who are some sellers on ebay who you have bought an intake form before and would you again?

I was looking at this one:

http://cgi.ebay.ca/03-07-08-Dodge-RA...d=p3286.c0.m14

It appears that it comes with a K&N filter already, all the piping and eveything you need. Plus it says it is 2 feet long to drop it by the washer tank. The only thing I dont see is a seperating wall similar to the AirRaids where it seperates the air filter from the rest of the engine compartment...

Thoughts on this guys? I checked today locally and an AirRaid for my dodge hemi 05 is going to be nearly $500 CAD locally.

I would reccomend just a drop in filter and save the rest of the money for a handheld tuner like Diablo Predator Or Superchips. The extra money spent on an entire CAI set-up isn't worth the money for the extra 1-2rwhp that the aftermarket box gives over factory. A tuner is money well spent. Adds much more power and costs nearly the same as a nice CAI set-up.
IMHO.....CAI are a waste of money. They are just a very well marketed commodity. $350 to gain a couple of hp or $350 for a tuner to gain 3x's as much power not to mention the trans shift controll...etc....
Not saying CAI don't compliment other things, but your not gonna get MPG's or crazy power out of spending the crazy costs that they charge. Drop in K&N and save the rest for a tuner is my best reccomendation unless cash is indispensible then get both...lol

Big thing to make sure on CAI is that they replace the Hemi hat. That's what everyone will tell you. Not that there's much to be gained anyways.

the stock airbox flows pretty well already with just a drop in filter like a K&N. just get rid of the "Hemi Hat" and you will be in business. take a look at the AIRRAID MIT, i run that with a drop in K&N, and i like it

So whats the MIT, just a larger tube from the box to the TB? And you leave the cover off the filter box?

yes, the MIT is just a tube that goes strait from the TB to the airbox. you do not run it with the top off.

Ok I am confused slightly then. What is the HAT? I am assuming its the top of the stock air box but you say you dont run it with the top off? And the drop in filter is the same size as the stock I take it?

Yes the Drop in air filter if you purchase from a third party (such as K&N) it should fit perfectly with the factory air box... The hat is the black housing on the TB (it says 5.7l Hemi or whatever engine size you have), its basically meant to silence noise if I am correct....

So whats the point of the MIT kit? Is it that much less restrictive than the stock pipe really?

I would get a BFI. they are made in canada, so theres no exchange rate, or BS duty fees. and IMO, the best quality intake out there.
