do you have just the door or the whole head piece w/the door in it. if its just the door you can replace it by taking out the blower motor (3 screws) and if you look in there you will see the little motor that moves the door needs to be unplugged and removed, then take out the white plastic insert out. then reassemble. if its the head unit you have to remove the ENTIRE dash which takes about 4.5-6hrs. start to finish .

i've done it 3times on different trucks. it's just like replacing the heater core with the amount of work that needs to be done. it's not hard just alot of screws. and the steering colum needs to get dropped down just 4 bolts. the parts takes about 5min to replace 2clips in back that you cant see.

the dealer sold me the whole housing and everything, he told me that they were having problems with the doors breaking due to the door stop limiter was to far back and causing the doors to break. that was part or the molded housing
hope this helps

I had to buy the whole piece to. Is there a way that i can just replace the door in there
without taking the whole dash apart. I took the elect switch off the new one but don't know how to get that rod and door out.

to take that rod out you could take a pliers and pull it out i think or take a screw driver and pry it out i cant remember if there were anytabs locking it in there. take the door off the new one so you know how it comes off. since i replaced the whole thing in my truck i have'nt had any problems with the door yet.
