I want to do the 4WD setup on my truck, but I want to avoid the torsion bar setup. Do any of you guys know if the lower control arms for a newer model jeep will bolt into the stock brackets on the dodge. The splines in the knuckles are just BEGGING for the conversion. It's just that those damn coils are in the way. A jeep suspension swap would fix that.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I thought of this solution, and measured out the dodge arm. I work at a quick lube place ant figured that I would measure a jeep when I see one. Guess what? Now that I'm looking, I haven't seen a Jeep in over TWO WEEKS! This sucks! I want to do some off roading ASAP!

No, I'm not in high school. I graduated trade school over a year ago. Problem being that I drive a v6 2WD, and I REALLY don't want to get stuck. I'm not talking about going where any other truck can go. I want to do some serious off roading.

BUY A NEW TRUCK

I don't see the logic on trying to turn a full size 2wd truck into 4wd (with jeep parts) when you have a v6

If you dont want to buy a new truck, get a rear locking diff, a good set of tires, and a WINCH to use when you get stuck. You would do better then you might imagine.

But a 4x4 truck would be the best choice dude..

If you want to do "Serious" offroading, the ram isn't even a good platform....

Why dont you pick up an old toyota 4x4 pickup, a mid-80s model, with the solid front axle. Or....a jeep, an old Bronco, ANYTHING but a modern day Ram with a double wishbone front end setup lol, and especially 2wd. If you think logically about it, a few grand could buy you a rig to get started with, and depending on how the suspension is setup, it could be cheap and easy to improve, especially the above mentioned models. Then you dont have to mess with your ram, you can keep it in great condition.

I'm not picking on the ram specifically, but any full size, heavy, long wheel based pickup truck with a independent front end setup is just not made for serious wheeling. I assume when you say "Serious" off roading, there is no trail involved, and you will be dealing with rough terrain and possible rock climbing...?

The 2wd ram will have a great purpose still, as your daily driver, and it can transport all the parts you will be replacing on your off road adventures!

Good Luck.

It's a neat idea and guys have been dreaming it up since the third gen was launched in 2002. The prolem is that it is completely impractical with astronomical costs. By the time you finished, you could have bought a power wagon for less money. And the rig would still suck for offroad.

I used to have an old 82 toyota 4x4 that i offroaded the c**p out of and it was also my daily driver.Let me tell you from my experiance that the 2 don't mix very well.when you break something when your going off roading, then your stuck not going to work or something like that.yeah, yeah you can't get a ride form someone .but, eventually it's PITA for you and eventually them.really your better off getting a project truck or rock crawler or someting like that so you can beat the living hell out of it and not have to worry about if your going to break something or not.beside all the $$ your going to spend on converting your truck to 4x4.
