Default Im looking into a truck with an engine problem - Swap?

I am looking at a 02 1500 with a 5.9 v8 and the engine seems to be busted. I was told it was possible a bad oil pump and it locked up. Not sure. SO i was just looking at buying used engine and dropping it in. I can find a used one for maybe 700 or so. What do yall think just for a shop to swap out my engine would cost? Advise????

My guess for a shop to swap an engine out would be around $500. It shouldn't be that hard of a job though. Unhook everything from the motor, unbolt the transmission, hook up a cherry picker, put some pressure on it, then unbolt the engine mounts. Voila!

Yea, ive done it a few times before with ease. Only problem now is i live in a apartment, dammit. Anyway, i did get a quote of $1400 for a rebuilt long block installed. Seems like a decent deal. Do yall think its worth it? its a 02 4x4 SLT with 9" of lift for $4500 plus money for the swap.

$1400 is pretty cheap for a long block installed. Plus a long block should come with some kind of warranty. If you ask a garage to install a block "you" found at another junk yard, the warranty won't last out the door.
