I just order the Aero Turbine 3030 from moes and I am i need of some guidence. I own a 07 ram quad cab with the hemi. I would like to just remove the muffler and install the AT3030 in its place. Or should I remove the OE pipe up to the Y pipe and get a new piece to replace it. What is the round (thing) after the y pipe anyway and is it needed? I want to keep the stock resonator so I dont have to get a newtail pipe at this time. Is this something I could do if I bought the pipe and clamps or should I bring it to a muffler shop. I would like to hear any and all options and advise. Thank you in advance......sorry for the long post

 

That lump right after y is a small resonator. Some trucks have it, and some don't. If you want to keep the stock tip, just cutout the old muff and weld in the new one. You will need a short piece of filler pipe since the AT is shorter than the stock muff.

 

can i get sections of stainless or just go with aluminized? Trying to keep the price down as well as complexity, but i'm not doin so well. I think i'll just leave the forward resonator on untill I have the magnaflow y pipe put in.

 

take the resonator off, the muffler sounds badass by itself. its not too loud, and next to no annoying in cab drone. i took my at3030 into a muffle shop and had them weld it in and fab me up a new y pipe. all in all i think it cost me like $80-$90. they replaced the y pipe to the muffler and everything else was left stock. here are a few pics:

i have an 07 qcsb with a 3030xl. the shop pulled my muffler and fabbed a small bent piece from the 3030xl to the tailpipe.looks and sounds good.

 

Hey OlDirtyJohn, did you have to put the Y pipe in or can you just cut the resonator and old muffler and put the new stuff in (straight pipe for res)? I plan on buying this exact muffler but wondering if the Y pipe will be necessary? Sound better?

 

look at your factory Y and you will know the answer on why folks switch them out. its not required though.
