It's a lot of work, no doubt about it. But it can be done in the driveway. That's where I did mine.

2. P/N 56701 is highly recommended to improve the service life of the factory front driveshaft and transfer case. The light duty CV front driveshaft used in these vehicles is sensitive to the increased driveline angles created by the installation of this suspension lift and can be prone to premature failure. The approximate service life of the factory front driveshaft can vary dramatically depending on use and conditions.

Direct from the installation manual for the Pro Comp Suspension kit for '02-'05 Ram 1500 4x4 kit. I knew the one I helped install a few years ago on an '04 4.7 Ram did not come with it, although it is now included with the coil over front kits.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of the kit for the torsion front IFS trucks. I've not seen the kit for the coil over IFS trucks, completely different kit, so I'm not going to pass judgement on it.

And you are correct, it does nothing to correct the CV angle, just the front driveshaft angle. I didn't word that too well in my earlier post.

As far as doing one in the driveway, I'm sure it would be a bi*ch. I've done a couple body lifts with jack stands, but never a suspension lift. I am lucky enough to have a hunting buddy whose father owns two tire stores, so we have a place to "play" after hours and sundays.

My hat's off to 'Froggy and anyone else whose done a suspension lift without the benefit of a lift...

I won't argue with the manual! I stand corrected. I'm glad my kit came with the ring. I would be pissed if I had to shell out more money after I already bought it.

Why not save the grand on a bracket style lift and just do a 3" level and a add-a-leaf or block in the rear and throw on some 35s. Much cheaper, and you'll be surprised how high the truck will sit!

Can you crank three inches out of the torsion bars? How will it ride after that, like ****?

Yeah, you ain't gonna get that outta the stock keys and I'd venture to say aftermarket keys with 3" of lift has got to be beyond harsh!!!

I'm not working steady right now, so lord knows I can understand not having the money to do some of the things you may want to do, but some shortcuts just are not meant to be taken.

Owning a suspension lift myself now after having three body lifted trucks has me sold on suspension lifts, but if the funds are not there, cranking the keys about 1.5-2" and doing a body lift yourself is a very economical way to achieve a good, solid lift, capable of fitting 35s with plenty of room for articulation and fantastic looks!

Can be done for well under $500 before tires...

Yeah, crankin the stock keys aren't gonna get you 3", and if you get a whole 3" out of just twisting the torsion bars(whether with stock or aftermarket keys) it's gonna ride reall rough. And it's arguable whether 3" of lift will allow 35's and articulation. I put keys on mine and my 35x12.5's would rub pretty often, I assume if you're lifting the truck you'd like to get some use out of it, not just let it sit.

I like the Rough Country kit too, I got mine a few days ago and I'll be installing it tomorrow, so I'll give you some more input after that. But just from taking everything out of the boxes and checking out the instructions, for the price, it's hard to beat. It comes with knuckles, cross member drops, stingers, shocks, etc., and everything looks really strong and well made.

As for doing it in the driveway, well, I'll be doing it at work on a lift, but as long as you have a good creeper and all the tools you'll need you should be in good shape. You just gotta be 10% smarter than what you're working on, and you'll be golden!!

The total came out to 1245.95 shipped. I also bought a set of airbags for the rear for about 200, which are nice, but aren't necessary. I wanted the truck to sit as level as possible whether it's loaded or not, so the airbags should be a nice fit. I'll create a post tomorrow night with pictures and some more info about the kit/install.

Anyone use a Rancho lift on a 05 Ram1500 4x4? I am looking at skyjacker, superlift, Rough Country, Fabtech, and Rancho. I found the Rough Country was the cheepest so far. I am likeing the Rancho but don't know what the differences are. I just want a 4in lift but I really don't want a rough ride.
