Default How can I tell if I have a LSD

Just bought this 2002 1500 2wd and I change fluids whenever I get a new car. I'd like to know if I need to add friction modifier but don't know what differential I have. It does have a tow package if that matters. Any help would be appreciated.

simply call the dodge dealer, ask for parts and then give them your VIN number, they will be able to tell you.

You can also check the glove box, I think it lists the gear ratio and anti slip rear if it has one.

hold the brake, hit the gas, get off the brake. one stripe means open diff, two stripes means LSD, no stripes means 3.55 gears

Except even an open diff can easily light up both tires in that situation. The easiest way to tell is jack up the rear axle and spin one tire by hand. If the other tire spins the same direction you have a LSD, and if the other tire spins to opposite direction you have an open diff.

I have 3.92 lsds in my pickup, I hold the brake, then let off of it I dont even burn off, I get an extremely fast take off, but no burnoff... I thought that was just the result of having the lsd's is that it would grip so much better that it wouldnt let me burn off, I have highway tires currently, could that be another cause... maybe a little better road grip than an AT or MT??? Or am I just doing something wrong...

Mines a one wheel wonder when I powerbrake but occasionally I'll get both going. Does this mean it's open or lsd?

i still think the easiest way to tell is a 2 minute phone call to the dealer, doesnt waste gas, tires or very much energy... LOL
