funny thing is there are hardly any issues with any of these engines. I mean if you look at all the issue threads posted about either engine it's about the same for the 4.7 or hemi and there ARN'T THAT MANY OF THEM. personally i think it has to do with maintence but i have total faith in the hemi and the 4.7 the only thing i don't is the automatic trans dodge puts in these trucks.. that's a totally different story.

alright fellas i'mback with the verdict.

1. i'll be honest, no, i didn't change the oil every 3k on the dot, it went over a little a couple times. i changed my tranny fluid and coolant and diff fluid myself around 80k. ALSO i'll be honest, i have a heavy foot, i personally have put 75k of those miles on there, and it was a very hard 75k miles.

2. got results from leakdown test today.... warped head, shrunk piston ring, AND blown head gasket, so from my original diagnosis .. all of the above would be correct.

mechenic says i need a whole new engine (obviously), quoted me at $4500 for a used engine with 48k and a 2 year warranty, Jasper engine and everything is $8500. my truck isn't worth that much so obviously i wo'nt be doing that.

The 4.7 are very expenseve according to him, how much is a HEMI? Even if its the same price i'd much rather have it. BUT would my tranny hold it? i'm not sure the diferences in the tranny on 4.7 and 5.7? If i didn't need a new tranny too i'd hevily consider going with the Hemi.

Look around craigslist. I've seen used hemis anywhere from $600-$1500. Haven't found many 4.7s though.

Thought about pulling the motor yourself and taking it to a machine shop and having them rebuild it,might save you a little bit of money, just a thought.
I dropped a piston in one of my cars and damaged one of the cylinder walls so I just had the block sleeved and rebuilt.

well, as much as i'd love to do it myself i do'nt have the space or tools to do it. not to mention i haven't done anything of this caiber before, i swapped a few axles and done a lot of Jeep work, but they're easy to work on, not too much you can mess up. If anyone knows if the tranny is the same for the hemi as my 4.7 (doubtful but i have no idea), i'dlike to know, thats proabbaly the only way i'd even get this truck fixed, if i put almost 5k into it, i'd much rather have a bronco or somethin than a 2wd 4.7 ram, its just not worth it to me.

Is your truck an automatic? I think they both use 45rfe/545rfe, but I don't know for sure. Someone w/ an auto hemi chime in?

i got about 23k on my '07 and it runs beautifully. i've run into more front end issues than anything, blown shocks, calipers, tie rod end, upper a arm...

I'm in Greenville, South Carolina, i've searched every CL within 200 miles can't find a thing, also checked Car-part.com (where i was able to find some Jeep stuff), and nothing, closest one was in Virginia or Texas i think.

If i were to sell it like it is, how much would i be able to get for it? everything is great and works fine, body is nice and super clean, i've buffed it out and foam padded it it a few times paint looks new still and its black. 2dr, flowmaster exhaust. i checked KBB and even said it needed a new engine it still told me 6500, i do'nt believe that for a second, realistically what should i expect? I just don't see paying 5k to fix something when i could just buy something else.
