Can anyone tell me how many gallons approximetly are left in your tank when the gas light comes on? I have a 26 gallon tank with the 5.9 on an 02 1500 Quad 4x4. Thanks...
It's like 3-4 gallons. They are doing this in part to have enough gas in the tank to keep the pump cool. If you keep the tank filled with enough gas, more than what it takes to turn the fuel light on, will help maintain the fuel pump.
My light came on and I stopped, it took about 23 gallons. I did notice it is a lot less than when the light comes on in the 2nd gen trucks, then it was like 8 gallons, 1/8th of a tank
Not sure about the 5.9, but my 2005 4.7 supposedly has 8% of the tank left after the light comes on (I also have a 26 gal tank).... at least that's what the manual says
I wouldn't try to let it go that low though. If there's any garbage/junk in the bottoms of the tank and it gets sucked up due to lack of gas, it can clog the pump/filter and injectors. Thats the way it used to be though, but I still think it would hold true.
