Default 4.7 Tranny shift points

I've been noticing that when I'm running down the road the RPM's are at about 2200 at 55-60 MPH. Then all of a sudden the tranny down shifts and goes to about 16-1800 RPM.

This happens on my way to work about 5 miles down the road then other times its about 8 miles down the road is this normal?? Do I need to be letting the truck/tranny warm up or something?

I live in east Georgia where it's about 80-85 degrees in the mornings or warmer. This also happen while it was in tow/haul mode while towing a 2-wheel dolly with an Escort on it about 1200 lbs or less on the dolly
