Default 2002 4.7 Liter Ram

I'm new to the forum & I am looking for information for a 2002 4.7 Ram. My timing chain broke & my truck is at a local shop. They told me it is cheaper to rebuild it or find a salavge motor. They also said that it can be only for a 2002. Can any other year match up with the 2002?

Personal opinion: Timing chain is an easy yet time consuming swap. Get a double roller and do it yourself. Yea, this means easy for someone not so mechanically inclined... Good luck my friend.

Not as easy on the 4.7L it has a couple of long chains that go to each head and must be properly timed together as well as tensioners that probably need replaced.

I assumed it was similar to the old school 318 or 360. Im a dip**** and replaced 1 on an old 318 on the side of the road....thats what i get for thinking...

Not sure if the 4.7 is a interference engine, but if it is theres a 95% chance that one or more pistons became best buds with the valves in their respective cylinders in which case it would be cheaper to find a salvaged engine...

Or just pick up a set of 10.5:1 Ross Pistons & Scat Rods and build yourself a 350HP 4.7L.

I agree that if you lost timing you could have very well have caused a piston and valve marriage.

If you want to build it up, let me know... I can give you a few tips.
