turn signals going haywire!
My dad has an 06 Ram and is having an issue with his turn signals. Nothing has been modified or changed on the truck the problem just cropped up.
His left turn signals work normal both lighting up outside and blinking at the correct pace inside. The right turn signals do not light up but they blink rapidly inside. We were told that the majority of these problems are from bad bulbs so we replaced ALL the bulbs and still not working. We checked the fuses, replaced them and still not working. We checked the towing package and it still nothing.
What could be causing this issue? Anyone have any pointers or places to continue to look? The stealerships say this is an expensive fix for them as they will need to check the wiring from bumper to bumper...I think that is crap.
Thank you for the read,
Jason

It's the switch in the steering column then. If the hazards are lighting all 4 up, the bulbs and wiring are fine, your signal switch broke. Dunno how much that costs, but if it's dealer only part, lube up before you go.
Does the turn signal engage on the steering colum and feel normal? I had something similar happen to an old chevy and ended up being the part that you engage in the steering colum. If its not there start tracing wires, it sounds like its not getting a signal when its engaged so its either there, a fuse, a wire somewhere has rotted and is grounding and I dont know if a bad socet would cause the problem or not if it has gone bad as I would think it would just effect the rear signal. I hate electrical issues they are so time consuming to try to track down and fix. Good luck with it.
Is the truck still under warranty? My '06 was still under warranty and was having the same turn signal issues. Both of my right turn signals quit working, then soon after, both my left ones quit also. The dealer diagnosed the issue as a bad TIPM (totally integrated power module). The TIPM looks like a fuse box next to the battery. It's more than a fuse box though, because it has a computer module also that controls the turn signals and many other electrical functions. The TIPM was replaced under warranty. Cost listed for the replacement TIPM was around $300.
hey guys,
the switch in the steering column felt normal but we replaced it anyways. it didnt fix the problem. Unfortunately the truck went out of warranty in June and this issue cropped up in July...the stealership would not cover it under warranty. I went to the dealership to pick up a another part for my 01 ram and talked to a service tech about the 06 issue. I explained everything we have done so far and he looked it up on his computer...after silence and a few generic questions he told me it was a "tough one" and that i should bring it in. Stealerships UGH!!!
