2006 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9L Diesel Transmission Swap
I have a 2006 dodge ram 5.9L 2500 4x4 quad cab with an automatic transmission. I was thinking about down the road changing it out for a 6 speed manual transmission. I was planning on keeping it 4x4, but I was curious how much work it would take and if I would have to get a manual transfer case. Mine is currently an electric on the dash. I think I would be able to keep my electric transfer case, but just looking for your thoughts on the subject.
Thanks Guys.
Thanks Guys.
Man this post has been up here for a year now.
I have an 03 with the Automatic, The messed part is mine was a very early 03 3500 4x4 with the 5.9 Cummins, So I got stuck with a 47RE insted of the 48RE wich I thought I was going to get in the first place.
Was never happy withthe automatic, Got burned on one rebild on it, Had to small calims court it, The rebuild I got on it now the front seal leaks, I stick a quart of Amsoil in it every 1500 miles, The builder is on the east coast I am on the west,
I think you may have to either change out the PCM or the ECU. Not sure about the latter but would bet on the PCM, My guess is it would be looking for a signal from an Automatic, Im sure the (I think its NV500 6sp?) would have to send the same signal but with different parameters, It maybe possible to not change the PCM but to just reprogram it with the correct software. I belive you can achive this with the DRB111
DRB3 Scantool, Its what the dealers use to pull codes and RE-Program the PCM, It pulls moe than just OBD codes, It pulls Dodge only codes out. I dont understand it all the way yet, I would like to get a DRB111 but there like 3k cheepest nice setup 6k on E-Bay.
I'm sure you get get all the parts from a donor truck, I used to do this to A-Body GM cars, Well I still do I restore GTO's Chevelles ETC. Take autos out, Put in 4sp/5sp/6sp what ever. No computer involved though.
Sorry bout the spelling no time to spell check.
Good luck with your Idea, I hope someone chimes in on this, Theres got to be some of you Gurus out there that I would love to try and learn from.
Be well.
Bob.
