Default Tire size question

I know I could do a search but I don't have the time right now to search for the answer. I am trying to order tires today, tomorrow at the latest. Was going to get nitto m/t 295/70/17 and my question is will there be any issues with this size on my stock 17 inch rim and stock height? I was thinking just a couple cranks on the torshion keys if needed. Its an 03 4.7 QC. Currently have 285/70/17 on stock height and never had any issues. Thanks for the help

You should be fine I believe they would only be about a 1/2 inch taller. You may have rubbing on you inner fenders when you turn sharp.

Not even that. Be aware: I think you'll find 295s a good bit oversize. Your speedometer will be a good bit off.

The speedo is not a problem, can be adjusted, the BFG's were just shy of 33" when brand new and the nittos are 33.54. I am only worried about rubbing at full lock. I think it will be fine stock or with a couple of cranks on the T Keys. Thanks for the help.

Well, he is going from a 285/70-17 to a 295/70-17 so the difference won't be very much.

Unless the computer has been set for the 285 tires, it's already probably pretty far off. I don't know what the original factory size was for his truck (mine was 265/70-17, but some are 245/70-17) though. Easily adjustable through flashing the computer anyway.

As for rubbing, I don't have experience with larger tires. I've read that 33's are OK, don't know about 33.5's though, but they've got to be really close to 33's in terms of fit. Might want to PM HammerZ71 and see what he things - he has experience in this area.

285's or 295's its the width thats changing not the height of the tire. the height comes from the 70 series as in side wall height. a 295 is almost 12" wide i know 285 is 11.5" wide so might be some inner rub with stock rims at full lock but other than that shouldn't be an issue. hope this helps you out.

Actually, it's both diameter and width. A 285 is 285 mm wide (about 11.25 inches) while a 295 is 295 mm wide or about 11.75 inches. The diameter equals 2 times section width times aspect ratio, plus the rim diameter.

For the 285/70-17, that is (11.25 X .70 X 2) + 17 or 32.75 inches in diameter.
For the 295/70-17, that is (11.75 X .70 X 2) + 17 or 33.44 inches in diameter.

In other words, the 295 is a little wider and a little taller than the 285.
