Default Check Gages: Oil Presure.

Vehicle; '05 2500 Hemi 2wd auto with 9K on the Odo. Yes, just turned over 9,000 yesterday, 09/19/09. Cash Purchased new, 4 1/2 yrs ago.

Problem; Oil pressure gage does not indicate on first 10 seconds at start-up, engine running and I get the Ck Gage lite and annunciator ding. Switch off the engine, again, turn the key on for the instrument cluster to run thru the cks and I re-start the engine. The oil pressure snaps to normal reading. Lately, (two weeks) this has been the start and run procedure.
It does not matter if it is the 1st start after sitting for three days or like yesterday, did a long run then did 1/2 dozen stops two-three miles apart and ran long run home. There were no diffs as I just stated, the starter has to start it twice to get the gage to come up.

Codes shown; There aren't any registered. I have two diff code readers and both shows clean.

Gentlemen, any ideas and suggestion? Gosh knows how I hate the thought to run this to the D-ship.

try holding down the odometer reset button while turning ignition on... or your oil sending unit is going south

On cold start it may just be the oil pump just takes a few seconds to get the oil up. I know in my ford with the 5.4 it always takes a good 30 seconds of driving to get the oil flowing completely. Also only 9K on that truck? Maybe from all the sitting around the oil sludged up? Check the oil level also? what's it at? A few weeks ago my truck was running low on oil dunno how yet. Since it's not leaking. But anyways, when low oil when taking off from a light the oil pressure gauge would drop down for 2 seconds and shoot back up. A oil change fixed that.

It's most likely a bad oil filter anti-siphon valve. Replace the filter and ensure it has the valve.

Basically, as it sits for a while the oil is slowly back flowing all the way back to the oil pan then here you come to start it and it has to prime all the way back up to the top of the motor where the sensor finally registers the pressure.

Thanks, for the suggestion. I change the oil approx every four months weather its got any miles to speak about. it is driven at least once a week and it gets well warmed up on each trip. I'll try the odo press and will change the sending unit if the odo press doesn't do the trick.
I use Frame filters on all the DC vehicles.

sounds like you have a classic plenum leak

This is a major issue with Ram 5.7L engines and this topic should stay on top until there is a solution released either by Dodge or by the Ram customers (proven-ground divers in the tranches). There are too many of these engines out there to treat this issue lightly.

If you are going to do an oil change soon, you might want to run 1/2 a can of "seafoam" in your crank case, it will clean out all the sludge that might hide in small places, put the other 1/2 can in the gas tank to clean the fuel system.

There is nothing wrong with your engine or the filter, or anything else. This has something to do with your truck being a 2005 model. I've heard of this a few other times (mine included) and all the trucks were 2005's. I' m pretty sure its an electrical issue with the PCM and sending unit. Not that I'm saying either need to be replaced, but its just a quirk of the electronics. Mine did it stock and with the Superchips installed, and only with the weather being cold outside (winter months). However, I just replaced my superchips with a predator, and I'm waiting to see if anything changes. The reason I think it might be fixed now, is because the the superchips does not require an calibration update, where the predator does.

Either way, I'm not any more concerned with this issue than I am with the 'Hemi tick.' It's just something I live with.

...Come to think of it, I could swear I just commented on this topic yesterday in another post...
