Silver stuff caked in oil cap threads
There is silver stuff caked onto the threads of the oil cap. I wiped much of it off. It appears to be fresh. Originally there was pure bright silver stuff in the threads. Anybody know what this is? Much appreciated if someone can tell me.
I bought this truck 3 weeks ago from a Dodge dealer. What my concern is that the stuff is some sort of sealer to cover up something. However I don't understand why it would get in the threads caked in like that. There appeared to be nothing else except this stuff, no oil or anything else.

You are right it appears exactly like anti seize. The consistency is thicker but if it is anti seize it would get thicker from the heat evaporating any liquid in it. Maybe the oil cap gets stuck on sometimes. Wish I knew so I could relax.
I think you were right. The cap can be extremely hard to remove. I did a google and on the Jeep it is well known. There are other brands and engines though with the same problem. This was the first time in my life, I'm 56, that I also had to use channel locks to loosen the cap.
You too huh? I thought it was just me. It seems there is a tang piece under the cap that catches and wont let it unlock. Using the channel locks forces it past that.
^^ Problem with the cap is within the PVC system as well as the heat of expanding the plastics. Let your engine cool down and the cap will be easy to remove.
I see no harm done with applying anti-sieze to the cap.
