Default Help, bought Repo Ram, but no keys!

Hello everyone, I just bought my first truck and went for the Ram Quad Cab. Well, as the title states it was a repo and besides the interior needing some major cleaning the truck is in fantansic shape...almost. Since it was repo'd the previous owners decided to not leave the keys in the truck. So I need to change all the locks on the truck plus I need to replace the ignition switch. I don't think I'll have problems changing the doors (it's a ST), but I've been doing some research and it seems that in order to get the ignition cylinder out I need a key inserted. Since I don't have a key am I out of luck or is there some other way of getting this replaced, or another part to replace. I'm looking at doing the quickest route so if I can replace a whole module for less then $150 I don't mind. The dealership wants to charge $400 and would rather not go that route if possible. Thanks and glad to be a new Dodge Ram owner.

Can a locksmith do it for you?

Why go thru all that effort. It is highly unlikely the person who owned it before you will be able to track it down. If your lucky and don't have the chip system, A good lock smith can re-create the keys.

If you go to the dealership and give them your VIN number they will be able to cut you a new key

I'd do what oefootball said, or have the dealership change out the locks for you.

If the previous owner knows the vin all it would take is a carfax

If the previous owner did not care enough to pay for it they will not be looking for it.
First off if you are that parinoid about them coming and stealing it. Go to the dealer with your vin and proof of ownership, yea they will ask, I help repo them from time to time and very seldom is there not a key in them, seems very strange to me since I know the way they go through the process, they have to have a key made as soon as they have possesion (repo company) or they do not get paid for the recovery.. Very Strange you did not recieve a key for the ignition but you have possesion of the vehicle, how did you get it home?

That is a good question. Go to the dealer with proof of ownership and get key. Buy new ignition and locks and change them out using you new key.

Carfax woulnd't prove anything nor would it show the new owner or their address. Only thing a carfax does is tell you how any owners and the history behind the car. it does not provide any owner information. The only way to track a vehicle down is by DMV and they obviously won't give info to anyone other than the authorities or the actual owner that registered the vehicle.

You guys ask how he got it home??? That's like askin someone how they got their broken down ride back to the dealer to be worked on.
There are these things called tow trucks
That's if he even took possesion yet?

I'm sure there are many guys out there that have found a key or have kept a key accidentally to their previous ride. They are worthless without actually following the car to know exactly where it is. Ohh, and the Police will go to the previous owners home if you had a recent repo stolen to see if they can locate it on their property. usually it is just a drive by a few times.
