Default My truck has a problem...I don't know what it is....

Hey everybody,
I seem to be having a problem with my truck all of a sudden. When I am at a stop light and I go to take off, if I feather the peddle gently it starts to accelerate slowly like it should. However, all of a sudden the rpms drop and it stops accelerating, then I have to give just a hair more throttle and then it picks up again and starts to accelerate.
The second issue, is when I am cruising at 50km/hr and just maintaining speed it seems to be jerky and you can even see it in the rps. They will go up and down 2-300rpm and the truck kind of surges. However if I am cruising faster or slower than that and maintaining speed it doesn't do it. There are no issues accelerating or at idle at all, the only issue when accelerating is when I am under full throttle and the rpms go up to 5500rpm it won't shift on it's own and I have to let off the throttle somewhat to get it to shift.

I know this is alot of info for some diagnosis, but somebody please help me....I dont want to pay stealership fees for troubleshooting if the wise people like yourselves can help me out...lol

Thanks.

I had almost the exact same issues in a car of mine. Turned out to be the EGR valve. I replaced it and everything straightened out.

Of course that doesn't mean thats your problem.

Throwing any codes?

sounds exactly like an egr valve, it might throw a code soon, it would be wierd if it didnt. But i had both of those same problems, replaced it and my truck ran amazing after it. I would replace the EGR valve. You should be able to find a DIY on here or just google it, its literally just removing the airbox and 4 bolts... 8 mm and 10 mm bolts. The new EGR is like 40 - 50 bucks

I'm not throwing any codes consistently. And by consistently I mean the check engine comes on and before I get home it clears. Last time I had a check engine light it was one of the 02 sensors and I replaced it.

EGR valve, Right on, I'll look it up. I do have an airaid cold air intake on it at the moment, but I dont think that is an issue as I have had it on for a while with no issues. Thanks a bunch guys.

Wouldnt hurt to clean the throttle body and check the TPS also as well as the vacuum lines.

if your check engine light is comming off and on im 99% sure its the EGR. Mine would do the same thing, as soon as i was gonna go get the code read... the light went off, eventually tho it will start staying on longer and your truck will run a little rough. Even if you have cai youll just wanna remove it to get to the EGR valve easier

Would it be worth trying to clean it before getting a new one? I'm kinda thinking it is still working but very dirty, maybe I am just showing a code when it gets stuck... any input?

I don't know if anyone has had success w/ one by just cleaning it, and if your gonna pull it off to clean it you might as well replace it.
