Trailer wiring
Hello,
I am seeking some help on trying to narrow down where I might have a problem. I have no power to my right side trailer plug. I checked the fuse and they are fine. I checked power on both the factory 7 pin connector and the 4 pin connector, neither one has power to the right side lights. ( I checked with a test light.) I don't see anywhere where a wire is cut, but have not gone thru all the wiring. I wanted to see if there was something else I am over looking. The lights on the truck all work. Any Suggestions.

YeeP, I know you are in the 3rdGen Forum but would you state your truck's make, model so your readers may narrow the possible of problems. Have you owned the vehicle since mile one, other words, 1st owner? Any home modification to the rear lighting system since OEM?
If you had listed the same truck as I have, I could right away tell you approx 1st pls to check and go/follow to the rear from there. There are some dang good whiz guys on this web that have been super helpful in sharing their experiences to cut the grief of others.

In saying you checked the fuse, did you check the trailer lights fuse in the power distribution box? Also, when you checked for power at the plug receptacle, did you use the ground plug in the receptacle as your reference point to the power for the lights? Do you have an multimeter which would make checking for power more reliable and easier?
The wires going to the plug in the rear, pass through a connector that is located under the truck, adjacent to, and slightly behind the left hand (drivers side) front wheel. You might want to check the integrity of this connector.

Checking the plug with test light, I got it to work when I checked power for the left side, and used the same procedure for checking the right side. I do have a multimeter, but am not 100% familiar in using it. I will check the connection by the drivers side front wheel. Thanks for the advice!

I had some trouble with my taillight wiring a couple months ago. I had power comin out of the fuse, but not at the taillight. What i did was used the test light and poked through the wires coating about every six inches until I got the light to come on. My wire traveling behind the spare tire mound, that goes to the pass side taillight was corroded inside the wire for about two feet. I cut the bad piece, installed a new jumper wire and Wahlah! So maybe try to use the test light to see where in the wire you are tracing is losing power. Hope this helps, and makes sense.
So i had a CL mechanic come out and try to fix/diagnose my problem... He came out and said there was no power all the way to the control box under the hood by the firewall. He said there was no power to the connector by the drivers side wheel well. He was unable to trace where the problem was and said he would get back to me. He just called today and said he found out it was bad news...
He said that it was most likely a bad relay in the IPM module. And that Dodge wants anywhere from 300-800 for the part itself. He said he would look into it further to see if there was anything else we could do. He is not charging me and said he would most likely be unable to fix this problem, which makes me want to believe him. I have done some searching since originally posting, and found at least 4 other people that had the same exact problem. I pm'd a couple of them as they had this issue one-three years ago... but Still no one has a real answer.
Looking to see if anyone has had to replace their IPM that is part of the factory tow package wiring system... Any help would be appreciated!

I am not 100% sure, but I would think you can fix your problem a lot cheaper by tapping into the tail light instead. If you only occasionally tow, I don't think that would be an issue, and it's better than an $800 repair.
