Why do you think by simply drinking and driving demands mandatory jail time. There are so manythings wrong with this statement. Before M.A.D.D. figured out they could get rich off of dui only drunk driving was a crime.
Obviously their propaganda has worked on you if you think that drinking and driving is a crime. Or that it's even a crime in the first place. This is not a personal attack on you. I just want to point out the flaws in the obvious propaganda that has influenced people today.
Neither am I condoning drunk driving as it is proven it makes drivers less able to function. But I might add that study have shown texting and driving is more likely to cause an accident from inattention. No one is drunk at .08 anyway.
Finally, treating a drunk driver like the daily thief, rapist. murderer is very unjust. While M.A.D.D wants you to think so many people have died from drunk drivers this is simply not true. The first thing you have to understand is that anyone can make up or adjust a statistic....a statistic is more or less just a number.
Much of the sob story's that are told have no proof that the drunk driver was at fault or that alcohol was the factor that caused the accident.

I just noticed something entertaining....you said you were training to be a fighter pilot.....you need a Bachelors degree to be a fighter pilot.....you are 19....hmmmm did you get a bachelors degree in 1 year?

lol no no cause in the ROTC program (which would be the only way he could be doing that) You take your AFOQT (Air Force officer Qualifying Test) twice Once your freshman year THis is to determine You initial skill set and such....and then again your junior year this is the Time that the determine what you will be doing in the airforce....You CAN do pilot training before you graduate but you are a senior in college by then....I'll let you cool kids figure out how I know so much about the program

I have not graduated yet. My degree is in aviation training and I'm in ROTC. So yes, I'm studying and training to be a pilot. Like mentioned nothing is 100% until my final score.

I am in no way "just one of those people". I only look for other points of view before I belive evrything that is told to me. Although many people are atheist and told me all these things to make me feel good about freeing my mind I pursued Christian apologetics.
Please dont insult me. Please ensure that I have researched how many drunk driver deaths their are. I reccomend you do. But after that look at the numbers for drivers drunk driving on average. Then look at the number of people killed by inattention, poor descisions and so on. You will find that there is no substantial spike in drunk driving deaths. I am 24 and don't know anyone who has had the same fate if so your debate is weak.

I will argue it is not by definition. If you have an open container in most places that is a crime that is only a ticket. But by simply drinking and drive you are not technicly drunk.

Though madd claims they are not a prophet group, if you follow the dollars you will find that they are far from poor. Making prophet off of my freedoms is wrong and unjust. how can you justify any of the techniques used by law enforcment to catch drunk drivers. You can't without infringing on rights that have been in place since every ammendment was put in place. In my eye's and many other madd is on the same level as acorn or any other group that will puss the bar to get their way. Setting up a road block is no probable cause.
- Again, drinking under the infl of alcohol is a crime and you will be taking a ride to an 8 x 8 cell for the night and charged with DUI. It doesn't matter if you're not drunk at a .08 or not, you can be a .06 or .07 and you will not be getting back into that car, you can and will call for a ride. However, if you are impaired (by use of SFST's) at a .06 or .07, you will be hitching a ride to jail. Officer's discretion.
Standerd field sobriaty test are flawed and can prove if someone has poor motor skills. It can't prove someone is drunk alone.
If you drink and drive, you place yourself, my family, your family and everyone else on the road in danger, but then again it isn't THAT BIG A DEAL.
I can tell you have a strong conviction about this subject as I do about many others. Everytime someone puts a cellphone to their ear they are putting everyone at danger.

And may I remind everyone that I don't condone drunk driving nor do I think it is safe, logical or fair to anyone else on the roadway. I am just tired of all the spin that is put on the facts to make it seem as if drinking and driving is a mortal sin.

But to join in, I agree with you WWJD on some of your opinion on drunk driving. MADD did use it as a way to raise money. There are many people who are very responsible when they drink, and they know their limit and they drive. A breathalizer might blow a .09. I live in a small area with several farmers in the area. There have been many times when a farmer helps someone else out, and after finishing, they converse while having a beer. Do they get drunk? No. Do they drive home afterwards? Yes. Has it ever caused a wreck? I have never heard of one around here. Would MADD shake their fingers in the faces of the farmers? Hell yes they would.
But I do agree with you 02Steve about not driving drunk, if you really are drunk. The breathalizer should not be a universal tool for measuring drunkness. I've never drank, but I'm sure there are some people who if they would blow the same level as me on a breathalizer, I would probably be more drunk than they are. Because I'm smaller, and probably couldn't hold my alcohol like they could. But I've never drank, so I can't back that 100%, only by what I've seen.
Drunk driving has also gotten off with a worse reputation that it deserves in some cases, and in some cases, it's not punished enough. I know first-hand someone who is actually a better driver drunk. I don't like knowing that he drives drunk. He has never gone home completely plastered, but somewhat drunk. Now on the otherhand, there are many people who get plastered off their a**, and think they are just fine to drive. Well no, the shouldn't, and a jail sentence probably should be in order.
So I, like you WWJD, do not agree at all with drunk driving. It is a scary thought to think of someone not being competent behind the wheel, and possibly killing you while they might survive. However, there is a great chance that the person who smashes into you is texting and not paying attention to driving, but instead to their cell phones.
