Good call on the EZ Down, just ordered one on Ebay.

 

what about an "EZ-Up"? obvioulsy it helps lowering the tailgate, but what about closing it?

I don't know if the shock will help that. I think its just a damper so the tailgate doesn't slam down. someone else will have to comment.

the 'easy lift' definitely helps lift the gate, but it still allows it to slam down (though with much less force)

 

I've got the easy lift on both of my trucks, best $20 I've ever spent!

It's a torsion bar, same concept as used on tank suspensions

Helps with both lowering and lifting the tail gate. It won't be as slow and soft as a shock, but it works both ways, and if you drop the gate, it won't slam, just a bit of a thump.

 

wont it start to bend after a while?

 

been a year, no problems yet. if it ever wears out, i'll get another one

 

The EZ-Down just keeps the tailgate from coming down fast, does not do anything for closing it.
