About average for a single ring and pinion, master install kit and labor.

I've got a local shop here, does excellent work that I've got a deal with for $600 an axle for anyone I send there. It breaks down to about $200 for the gears, $100 for the install kit and $300 for the labor.

It also takes that shop 16 hours to do a 3 hour job.

Does anyone know of any other good shops in the Houston area? And yes its for a 2wd.

No, it actually took the guy less than 2 hours to do a 3 hour job. It just takes them a day and a half to get started...
