Gas was around 2.05 - 2.10, somwhere in there. So 20 bucks would equal about 9 and a half give or take. Still kind of pitiful imo.

run some injector cleaner, such as lucas in that bad boy, check tire pressures? i know this is obvious stuff that you've probably checked... but about @ about 5.5mpg you've definately got a problem... unless you got stiffed on gas

damn, just over 2 bucks for gas!!! lucky!! its 3 a gall over here in socal right now. but to my point, next time you do an oil change, run some seafoam through. pour some into your oil, and drive the truck for about 10-20 miles, then suck some up into the vacuum hose that connects to the brake booster, then put some in your gas tank when you have about a quarter tank left. then change your oil as usual. this will clean out your fuel lines/injectors, and your upper and lower engine

You gotta get that mud off, a lot of problems can come from it. By the way, how long was you gas light on before you put in $20? You have too many variables, if you're gonna complain about mileage you're gonna need some solid numbers. Sell a kidney and fill your tank to the top, drive, fill up again at the same place(takes the gas pump out of the equation), then take the number of gallons you put in the tank(the second fill up) and divide that into how many miles you went between fill ups. Any deviation from this and you're just guessing.

I filled up with that 20 about 5 minutes after the light came on, which if I remember right is right around 5 gallons. So there was a little over 14 gallons in there and over 49 miles I burned just over 9 gallons because I checked how many miles I had right after the light clicked on. So if there is any deviation that would make any bit of difference, it would be in the time my truck ran going to get gas.

Too much guessing, The point I'm making is you do not have a fixed known start or stop point. You're relying on guesstimates. And you don't have an exact number of gallons you put in, another estimate. I'm sorry but without solid numbers, arguing and guessing can go on all day and you still won't know your exact mileage. What can't be argued is that you perceive a large drop in your mileage, so you may very well have something wrong.

Like Hoss said, WAYYYYY too much guessing. You really need to fill up at least 2 times and see where you actually are. Your fuel light comes on and you think it's around 5 gallons left...mine has well over 9 gallons when mine comes on as I have never put much more than 25 gallons in and it has a 34 gallon tank. Sometimes I put 22-23 gallons in when the light comes on and sometimes I put 24 gallons in.

Gas at $2...lucky SOB!

Besides that I would look at tune-up stuff for sure, air filter, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, EGR, PCV, make sure your brakes aren't sticking, check tire pressures etc.

Then if it still costs too much...buy a car.
