Well, it looks like I may be doing some towing this coming weekend. I haven't tackled this problem yet since it wasn't a huge concern before, but now it is. So I'll check to see if there is a fuse for the Tow/Haul mode today, otherwise what does the Tow/haul light not coming on in the cluster when the key is turned to the "on" position tell you? (Except that the light might be burnt out).

Well I checked for a fuse in the fuse box and I didn't see anything related to the Tow/Haul mode. What's the next plan of attack?

Depending on the year of your truck.... most newer Chrysler products have an instrument check you can perform. Simply press and hold your odometer trip reset button, and turn on the key to the on position (not start). It should after a moment start lighting all the lights as well as running the guages all through different stages. I know my 04 RAM, 03 Liberty and 05 Dakota all had this available. This will tell you if the light is burnt out... I don't think Tow/Hual it blinks on and off at start under normal conditions, but I have never looked for it either.

Alright, did what you said and indeed the Tow/haul light did turn on with the Trip/Odometer held down.

The cluster said the following:

C-Code

then

00 00

Is that normal?

What's the best way to test the switch or get to the switch to test it?

the switch is in the gear shifter handle and in most cases you just replace the gear shifter handle, it isn't easy to get to u have to take the column covers off drop the column on the seat and then follow the wire to the plug and unplug it then you have to drive out the pin that lets it pivot and holds it to the column.

I believe the c code / 00 00 thing is normal. It relates to software or speedo cluster version and I think communications errors to the computer. At one time I thought it was engine error codes, but I had an engine light on once and it showed the same as no engine light on.

Probably your next step is debugging the switch. I can't say much more than the previous post as I have never needed to take it apart.

Good luck.

I would probably just call dodge parts and ask them and then you can get the price and availability too.
