Doing a brake job today
hey y'all, just thought i'd get on and let y'all know i finally got some money so i'm fixin to replace my warped rotors and replace the pads. is there anything about the 3rd gen brake system i need to know before doing this?
^LOL
are you doing all 4 brakes? if you are, be careful with the emergency brakes in the back, they are drum style, and i knocked one of the pads off when i did mine... and from what i hear they can be a bitsh to replace
squirt some penetrating oil on the bolts before you go at it too

yeah, i'm having a bitch of a time with the dang caliper bolts, thinking i'll need a breaker bar since the 8 lb sledge isn't working. i'm just doing the fronts since the pads are about gone anyway. ever work on **** when it's snowing?
oh yeah! not usually the truck, but snowmobiles. I've rebuilt motors in snowbanks...
ok, so now i have a problem. i got the caliper off and the new pads seated, but i need to get both plungers down. i pressed the back one in and the front plunger came out, and it won't go back down. what do i need to do to get it back in? i'd upload pictures but i'm in the lobby of a dorm so i can't.
That's why I invested in an actual caliper spreader. It's wide enough to push both down at the same time. You'll need to find something metal and flat to put across both pieces in order to squish them at the same time.

To push the pistons back in...what i usually do...use the old brake pad and put a c-clamp over everything. The brake pad will distribute the pressure evenly. it will marr your pads so don't use a new one. You'll need a large enough c-clamp to fit over it all.
I would put some brake pad sealant on. It stops any possible squeeks/noises. It's like a gooey rtv sealant and they sell them in tiny packets up by the counter usually.
