Default Auto Transmission Problem

Hi all! New to this forum and I see alot of good information here. Just wanted to know if anyone else out there has experienced this problem.

I have a 2004 Ram 1500 Quad Cad, 5.7 Hemi, auto tranny, and 7000 miles. I was driving down the highway today and noticed that the tranny would not shift. I'm not sure what gear it was in but it was stuck in that gear. Wouldn't down shift or anything. I tried shifting into neutral and back into drive and down to second and back into drive, but it would still not shift. About this time I noticed that the check engine light was lit. Pulled over and shut her down. After starting her up again the tranny was shifting once again, but engine light was still on. Stopped by the dealer on the way into town and they pulled some codes from it. Told me that the tranny solenoid had been stuck and to drive it for a while and see if the problem repeats itself. I hope it was just a glitch.

Anyone else out there heard of or experienced this problem?

Thanks for any input.

If the tranny solenoid was stuck, why didn't they fix it! That is crazy, parts fail for a reason! That would be like me going to my doc, "Hey doc, I have a frozen shoulder." Doc-"Well we ran some tests and you do have a frozen shoulder, just deal with it and see if it continues to happens again.

sounds like your dealer is trying to get out of some warranty work.

if it does it again dont leave the dealership untill it is 100% fixed with no money comeing out of pocket

I have a 2002 that was doing the same thing. I had a friend that also had a 2002 with the exact same thing. He had 3 or 4 different solinoids and pressure govenors (Pressure govenor Soliniod, 3/4 shift solinoid, pressure govenor, & another one) changed and has had no problems in the lads 3-4 months.
If you find out which solinoid it was please let me know. I am taking mine to be looked at on Monday morning.

Your trouble won't just go away, your tranny needs help.I have a 2002 4.7l with I think the 45rfe. It did the exact same thing. When it is not shifting it is going into limp mode. The transmission locks into 3rd and won't shift up or down. If you cycle the ignition it resets the computor and the tranny will shift again, until the computor freaks out and you get a clunk when it locks back into 3rd. It only took the dealer 2 weeks to figure out a solenoid pack was bad in the tranny. The replaced the valve body, tranny pcm, and a pressure sensor on the side of the tranny but none of that fixed it. Sounds like Dodge may have another tranny problem.

Got mine back from the shop last Thursday and the pressure govener solinoid and pressure transducer in the tranny were bad, Tranny is ok. The Tranny guy said the newer Dodge trannys are alot better it is usually the electrical components that go bad.

Is this 7/70 true for all the trucks?? I just got my truck about 2 months ago from brother and law who said he had that? It should transfer to me now that I have bought the truck right? 04 1500...

Thanks,
Hole

Is there an aftermarket solenoid out there that would be better suited for the tranny? I'd rather replace it now and not have to worry about this happening to me.
