Cool Taking off some chrome

Well I will be taking off some chrome in May once I'm out of school and I'm most likely going to take off those side mirror covers. I'm getting some smoked rain guards so I would like everything to be dark up by the window since I have the dark tint. Only thing is, how will I be able to get them off? Seems a little trickier than to try it with fishing line like the badges. Anyone ever do this before? Is there a good way to take the covers off?

I would bet it is something like the door handle covers, which you just pull off (mine broke when I did it). Removing all the chrome sounds like a winning idea.

Yeah, I may have to go at it with a hair dryer for a bit, maybe that will weaken the tape so I can get it off. Maybe I can even try to fit a screw driver in between the cover and the actual side mirror and gently pry..

The tape was really strong on the handle covers.

Lol, unfortunately I think it's the same tape for the mirror covers too . I'll have to figure something out eventually.

Do you plan on keeping the covers in case you want to put them back on?

I pulled the door trim chrome off of my wife F150. I tried the fishing line and dental floss idea, dont even bother, the way the handles are shaped it will only keep cutting the line. They way I did it is wedge a flathead screw driver to get started and pull with a needle nose pliers. Mine broke in various places as well, and once I got a rhythm going and began going faster I got careless and ended up with a gash across one knuckle that was worth 2 stitches, but nothing a piece of electrical tape couldnt fix up enough for me to finish. I hadnt thought about it but once you get a piece lifted you could try spraying WD 40 or something in there to help loosen up adhesive. I also had to spend an hour or so after peeling the remaining tape off the handles. To add insult to injury, I had to turn around and replace it because the fender trim cut into the paint so I had to put it back on, which looked retarded without the chrome handles to match.
