Default Found the Problem

I had it towed to a repair shop that is fair on pricing and does great work.(Not a Dealership) Come to find out I broke a spring on cylinder 4 and screwed up the valve. I know I did alot more damage by driving back to the house. It ends up that the valve seal broke and the valve broke off in the head, wich damaged the inside. No damage was done to the piston and no scratches to the cylinder wall. This is a common problem with the 03's. A brand new updated head with valves, springs and spark plugs was only $342.00. The whole job from tear down to replacing including new plugs on the other side, a new valve cover and synthetic oil change was $1145.00.

Thats what I said but the common problem is with the side it happened on. They said it was going to cost almost as much for the other side. I went the route "not broke don't fix it". Lets see if it doesn't come back to bite me.

Well at least you are back up running. Anything specific cause this problem? I have never heard of a broken valve seal doing much more than leaking oil into the cylinder pass the guide. Perhaps the spring broke first, causing the associated damage? You are seriously lucky you didn't trash the complete cylinder with a dropped valve.

The passanger side and the spring broke first. They said that the springs were updated and fixed on the 04' models.

For being a really common problem, i've never heard of this happening any more often on the 03's than any other year.

Glad you got it fixed fairly low-cost.
