Default Lamp Out light

I have recently been getting a lamp out warning chime and light when there are no lights on and the brakes are not applied. Also I have checked lights and can find none inoperable. Anybody else had this problem. The warninig light will go out if I turn the headlights on and back off.

posibly a bulb on it's way out. Also, have you checked the 3rd brake light?

If no lights are turned on, and foot is not on the brake pedal, I am assuming there would be no current passing through the system, could it still possibly be a bulb?

I believe I had that problem on my 03 2500. its been a long time but I think it was one of my license plate lights. I think mine did the same thing (lamp out when no lights were on). I could be a reverse light or 3rd brake light also, like these guys said.

The lamp monitoring circuit is a good bit more sensitive than the normal voltage on bulbs. You can have an intermittent bulb that will not appear to be bad by just looking to see if it is burning. If you inspect your bulbs, look for one that has discolored slightly on the inside and you may also notice that the bulb has a filament that appears to be a little "ragged" although it may not appear to be broken. It can be a lot of trouble to inspect all of your bulbs, but one that is going bad can bug you for a long time before it finally goes out completely. I had this same problem off and on over a period of 3 to 4 months before I finally got tired of it and checked each bulb individually. Luckily enough it was in the first few that I checked, a defective brake light bulb. I found another one that was already discolored, like the one that I replaced, so I just replaced it at the same time to head off the same trouble happening again.

The warning light is psychic, it'll hassle you about a dead bulb before it dies, I've had my lamp out warning on for 2 weeks before a bulb finally bit the dust.
