Default Synthetic oil

I have a 2002 Ram 1500 with around 129000 miles. I want to change from regular oil to synthetic oil. Should i do it? Also how to do it? What is the oil change interval for synthetic oil.

With that many miles...i would stick to conventional.
Synthetic actually cleans and is a thinner oil compared to conventional. if you've got sludge build up around your seals stopping a potential leak and the Synthetic gets in there and cleans it, you may get some leaking.
There's no need to switch to Synthetic with that many miles anyways, but it's your ride and $$$.

there are no performance gains really at all. Some claim a tiny bit better mpg's, but it's unlikey that you would even notice anything.

So question Dirty. Was it okay to switch to Synthetic at 74,000 miles on my truck?

u wise a$$ u...lol well that's 55kmi less than what Cubanblood has so I would say yes.
There is a point in time where you need to say no. ya know?

It's not like Synthetic is bad for higher mileage engines as long as they are healthy, it just comes down to practicality and reasoning. Some guys want it just for the extended service intervals and some want it so their engine lasts longer. if you've made it to 129k and no problems thus far, why change?

haha was not trying to be wise, just was a little confused. I totally understand now and its mainly up to the owner & how well they have taken care of their truck.... And all the other factors of switching, but I would go with Dirty on this Cuban, Why change now??

I think something like Mobil 1 high mileage might be a good option for your truck. It will clean a lot of stuff up and I believe most synthetics now have seal conditioners to help prevent leaks like that from happening after the switch.

Mobil 1 high mileage? i know they have Extended versions of the Fully Synthetic that let you go 12kmi(which i wouldn't reccomend unless you did at least a filter swap every 6kmi and topped the oil off)
I know they have Mobil Clean 5000 which is freakin garbage. i put that crap in 2 different vehicles and both of them started to have valvetrain noise. i dunno why I tried it again after it happened the first time, but i know i will NEVER use Mobil Clean 5000 ever again. it's amazing how good their Synthetic is and how crappy their conventional is. maybe i had 2 isolated inceidences, but i have yet to have that problem with another oil and I've owned over 20 cars and logged quite a few miles on them, so i have done many oil changes. never an issue outside Mobil conventional.
end rant....lol

I guess you've never heard of it https://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English...ge_10W-30.aspx. I haven't used it but it claims to be designed for high mileage and possibly dirty/sludged engines. I've seen it at wal-mart in the 5qt jugs so it should be priced around the same as other big jugs of Mobil 1. OP what engine does your truck have?
