painted tail lamps?
ran across this pic tonight while i was plundering for paint ideas and noticed his tail lamps are painted the charcoal color of his truck (my color too). we all know all the different ways of smoking and blacking-out tail lamps, but is this even possible with a color other than black? the article related to this photo mentions nothing about his tail lights, i cant figure out if they're just painted covers he puts on for shows and photos, or if its the actual lamp housing that's been painted. can this be done so that the brake lights actually shine through when turned on? if so i want this!! i've never seen functional greyed-out lamps before...

You can paint your tails any color you want. My business partner is a painter and he has done several blackouts and matching tails. I am not sure if there are any special materials used but it is basically the same as painting your car. The problem is the more layers of paint you put on the darker your lense get, which won't let light through. I believe painters usually only put one-two thin layers and then clear it. The more layers you put the better it will match but the dimmer your tails get which means the blue and reds behind you!

Yeah i just talked to my buddy he said he mixes the base color and a clear base together to make a transparent mix. Then he clears them afterwards. The only thing he said negative about was that some colors won't come out the color its supposed to be because you are painting red lenses and reflectors. I guess it alters the look on certain colors. So I would imagine thats where you buy the chrome tails with clear lenses!
