Looking to bye a new truck, pleae help.
Ive looked at a few on unclehenrys.com and craigslist.com and i found 4 trucks on there 03-05 years that they had to replace the moter for some reason. But i dont no why thats why im trying to get some info on them because i dont want mine to blow up because ill be pulling at the fairs and stuff. And also why do these engines tick? And whats an et delete? thanks for the help guys the more info the better?
03 might wanna change the valve springs. Also no EGR on the 03 I believe along with 04. 2004 came some changes. With the 03 you can do the TMR Mod which gets rid of the torque management on the transmission shifts.
IMO the 04s and 05s are the best of the Hemi's. The '03 was the first year and the PCM and other components were not "fine tuned" until the '04s.
Nothing wrong with an 06+, but in an IFS truck, I'm just more comfortable working with a torsion bar front suspension. Also, I'm no fan of MDS on a pickup...
As far as engine problems, of course you see it, but not anymore than Furd or Chebys. You see a lot of issues, comparatively, on forums because a LOT of guys come here simply to solve their problems. Also, I'm a firm believer that 99% of the guys with major engine problems are running 87 octane regularly. Even though Chrysler highly recommends 89, but says 87 is "ok", it seems damn near everybody with a cylinder failure has been running 87 octane.
Find you a good deal on an 04 or 05 and besides the normal check over, have a compression test done on it. Better to pay $75 and walk away, then paying thousands for the truck and having to add thousands more for an engine rebuild or new engine.
BTW, 44k on my '04 purchased new five and a half years ago and not a single problem to date...
